According to a November 2018 article by author Geoff Rushton at StateCollege.com, many years after the Jerry Sandusky verdict, Penn State is still on the hook for millions in settlement payouts and expenses associated with the matter.

Jerry Sandusky, former assistant football coach at Penn State University was convicted on June 22 2012. Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts involving 40 victims over the course of 15 years of Sandusky’s association with Penn State. According to attorney Slade McLaughlin; claimant information and negotiations were “delicate and sensitive”.

According to the Rushton article and published financial statements, Penn State has paid out approximately $113 million in settlement payouts to claimants alone. Other expenses, settlements are fines associated with the case(s) are estimated to be around $250 million.

As reported, “Penn State has not gone to trial on any of the lawsuits related to claims of abuse by Sandusky.”
